Welcome to my music world!
It’s not easy for me describe my relationship with music and with my instrument that I study and play for more than twenty years as autodidact, but I can tell you that before studying bass I’ve learnt to listen to music very seriously, what happen in a sound track, the variations, the interplay between the instruments.
This ability effectively helped me in my musical experiences. The original listening of Rock bands like Led Zeppelin, The Police, Queen, U2 (we’re still talk about vinyl!) help me with the hear training and as a bass student.
During that I call “My music journey”, I got in touch with some other musical styles that I never would thought at the beginning of my approach to the bass. I think about the 70’s Progressive Rock that leaves an indelible mark in my music life and not only. Bands like King Crimson, Yes, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Emerson Lake & Palmer, U.K., Van Der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, Gong, Rush allowed me to grow as a listener and as a bass student.
Close to thirty (almost late) I’ve discovered the existence of Jaco Pastorius, a Revolution for all of us “humble bass crafts”. Near the listening of Pastorius I’ve joint the Jazz and Jazz-Fusion, I refer in particular to that record of Bill Bruford (drummer of King Crimson) where suddenly we found a “certain” Jeff Berlin.
So always Jazz and Jazz-Fusion but with a reference to 70’s Rock Progressive, searching for contaminated music situations. Standard Jazz and tonal centers and many other things became my personal methodical study for each track. But the meeting with Piergiorgio Lucidi closed me to the concept of Jazz Phracing and mostly to that of Passing Tone just ‘till arrive at nowadays where the range of contamination widen from the 70’s Rock Progressive to the actual Prog-Metal.
Then with Piergiorgio Lucidi I’ve given life to the Lob Tech Tones, a jazz-fusion trio with which I’ve performed in some Jazz festivals as at Jazz for Holiday, at Jazz-id Area and at many others, in particular at Roma Rock Festival.
Who would ever imaged perform at the GODS OF METAL 2008 with Kingcrow at the threshold of 40 years?!.
In these terms It could seems like a regression but indeed It was a so huge experience that I wonder like I could do that…
And all this joint to the studio recording always with Kingcrow for “Phlegeton”, recording directed by Diego and Manuel Cafolla ( the guitarist /song writer the first and the drummer the latter ) between Rock, Prog and Metal, always searching for particular atmospheric sounds and for the absolute sound precision and the precision from a take to another.
My actual musical approach is focused on the great jazzmen as Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, on their Phracing and slowing their solos to catch some effect notes. So, that famous “Music Journey” begin to take the characteristics of a "Time Travel", where come back means rework and not copy.
Jazz-Fusion in a wider way, Fusion like a melting various styles where the richness is in what we still don’t know and we want to explore...
